The house
Where the name comes from
Pomponette is the cat in Pagnol’s “La Femme du Boulanger” — the one who runs off and is waited for. We have given her a sailor’s cap with its red pompom and sat her on the quay, back turned, watching the harbour.
The name brings three things together: the sailor’s pompom, Pagnol’s Provence, and the invitation to “faire pomponette” — to raise a glass on the quay, unhurried. That is more or less the whole programme.
The house
La Pomponette sits on the quai des Baux, where the harbour opens onto the bay and Cap Canaille closes the horizon. The room looks out over the water; so does the terrace.
A wine bar, a counter, an oyster bar: people come for a glass of white Cassis and half a dozen oysters, for a lunch that runs long, or for an ice cream at the end of the afternoon. We serve all day — there is always something to eat.
The team
A small team, in the kitchen and on the floor. A fuller introduction will come with the first photographs.
